The Mechanical Engineering department is proud to congratulate Sonam Lhendup Dorji, Pema Wangyel, and Karma Wangchuk (Year I Mechanical Engineering) for their outstanding achievement at the Youth Technovation Hackathon, where their team, EON, developed an innovative project called EDUMOS and emerged among the top performers at both college and national levels.
EDUMOS is an offline-first learning platform designed to improve access to education in low-connectivity communities. The system enables students to access lessons, quizzes, and learning resources without continuous internet access while synchronizing learning progress through locally shared resources whenever connectivity becomes available. The platform aims to bridge educational gaps and support inclusive learning opportunities for students in remote areas.
The project first secured 🏆First Runner-Up position at the College Level, earning a cash prize and seed fund of Nu. 15,000. Building on this success, the team advanced to the national stage and competed against leading teams from institutions including GCIT and JNEC during the Youth Technovation Hackathon held in Thimphu.
Demonstrating exceptional innovation, technical creativity, and teamwork, the team emerged as National-Level Winners, receiving a seed fund of Nu. 150,000 to further develop and scale their solution.
This achievement highlights the innovation potential of Mechanical Engineering students beyond traditional engineering disciplines and reflects the department’s commitment to fostering creativity, problem-solving, entrepreneurship, and technology-driven solutions to address real-world challenges.
Prof. Abhishek Agarwal, Dean Mechanical Engineering, congratulated the students on their remarkable accomplishment and noted that such achievements demonstrate the ability of Mechanical Engineering students to contribute meaningfully to emerging technologies, innovation ecosystems, and national development priorities.
The department extends its appreciation to all mentors, organizers, and supporters who contributed to the success of the event and wishes the team continued success in further developing EDUMOS into a transformative educational solution for Bhutan.
Congratulations to Team EON on bringing pride to the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the College of Science and Technology.
