In a deeply meaningful and emotional visit to the College of Science and Technology (CST), Phuentsholing, Dasho Tashi Wangmo, Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Employment, Royal Government of Bhutan, donated her personal collection of engineering books to the Mechanical Engineering Department – a gesture that carried not only academic value, but also personal history and inspiration.
The donated collection includes a wide range of internationally authored engineering reference books and technical resources that Dasho Tashi Wangmo had carefully preserved since her engineering student days in Australia. Describing the moment as emotional, she shared memories associated with the books and reflected on how these resources had shaped her own academic and professional journey.
For the department, the contribution represents far more than a donation of books—it is the passing forward of knowledge, experience, and encouragement to the next generation of Bhutanese engineers.
The collection was formally received by Dean Prof. Abhishek Agarwal, who expressed heartfelt appreciation for the generous contribution. During the interaction, Prof. Agarwal shared the department’s recent progress, laboratory strengthening initiatives, industry collaborations, student achievements, and future academic plans. He noted that the books would become valuable resources supporting upcoming teaching, learning, and student development activities within the department.
Dasho Tashi Wangmo expressed happiness and appreciation after observing the department’s ongoing growth, academic initiatives, and expanding collaborations. She also shared her earlier experiences and interactions with the institution and faculty members, reflecting warmly on the evolving journey of engineering education in Bhutan.
President Dr. Cheki Dorji extended sincere gratitude to Dasho Tashi Wangmo for her thoughtful contribution and continued encouragement toward higher education and engineering development in Bhutan. He highlighted the importance of such meaningful gestures in strengthening academic culture and inspiring future generations of students.
The interaction was attended by Mr. Tenzin, Mr. Damcho Wangchuk, Mr. Singye Wangchuk, Mr. Karma Dorji, and Ms. Choki Zangmo.
The visit stands as a powerful reminder that education leaves a lifelong impact-and that knowledge shared across generations continues to shape the future of the nation.
