Mr. Damcho Wangchuk and Mr. Singye Wangchuk, Assistant Lecturers from the Mechanical Engineering Department, participated in a five-day professional development programme titled “Training on Higher Education Teaching, Learning and Assessment”, held from 24–28 February 2026 at the College of Science and Technology. The programme was organized by the Centre for Academic Innovation and Professional Excellence (CAIPX), Royal University of Bhutan.
The training programme was designed to strengthen the pedagogical foundations of newly recruited and early-career academic staff, supporting their transition into effective teaching roles in higher education. Sessions focused on the formulation of clear learning outcomes, the application of Universal Design for Learning to promote inclusive classrooms, and the use of student-centred approaches such as Inquiry-Based Learning and Collaborative Learning, which are particularly relevant for engineering tutorials and project-based coursework.
Participants also explored Design Thinking in Education and 21st-century active learning strategies, offering practical insights into fostering creativity, critical thinking, and innovation among engineering students. The programme further addressed key aspects of assessment design, questioning techniques, and constructive feedback, equipping participants with tools to enhance meaningful student engagement and learning outcomes.
Dean Prof. Agarwal appreciated the participation of the lecturers and continues to encourage faculty members to actively pursue professional development opportunities and share their learning within the department to further strengthen teaching practices and academic quality.
The department views such initiatives as important in supporting the professional growth of its academic staff while advancing innovative, student-centred engineering education at the College of Science and Technology.
