The Mechanical Engineering Department successfully organized a Merit Award Ceremony to recognize and celebrate the academic excellence and professional promise of its students. The programme was supported by the Mrs. Shashi Kanta Memorial Foundation, reflecting a shared commitment to encouraging merit, motivation, and student development.
During the ceremony, five meritorious students – Ms. Lakzeen Lhaki, Mr. Lhawang Jigme, Mr. Cheten Dorji, , Mr. Pemba, and Mr. Sonam Lhendup were honoured with cash awards along with certificates, medals sponsored by the Mrs. Shashi Kanta Memorial Foundation and aroma kits sponsored by Al Aroma Pvt. Ltd., India. In addition, stationery kits were distributed to all Mechanical Engineering students, further strengthening academic support for the department’s learners.
Delivering the opening remarks, Prof. Abhishek Agarwal, Dean, highlighted the importance of recognizing student achievement as an essential element of academic culture and emphasized the growing role of academia–industry engagement in preparing graduates for emerging professional challenges. He expressed sincere appreciation to the Foundation for its generous and meaningful contribution toward student motivation and institutional development.
The programme was graced by the Chief Guest, Ms. Lhaden Wangmo, Chief HR and Administrative Officer, Bhutan Brewery Pvt. Ltd., Pasakha, who shared valuable insights from her professional journey and encouraged students to actively strengthen their practical skills alongside academic learning. She emphasized the importance of adaptability, discipline, and continuous self-development in building successful engineering careers.
In his remarks, President Dr. Cheki Dorji congratulated the award recipients and commended the initiative taken by the department in strengthening student recognition platforms through external partnerships. He also acknowledged the contribution of the Foundation in supporting academic excellence and student welfare.
A special highlight of the programme was the Knowledge Sharing Session, where students presented their industrial training experiences from leading national and international organizations. Mr. Cheten Dorji shared his experience from training at Airbus, while Mr. Tshering Dorji and Mr. Sangay Tenzin presented their exposure at the UGC–DAE Consortium. Mr. Bishal and Mr. Kezang also shared their learning experiences from Air Flow Pvt. Ltd., India, providing valuable insights into applied engineering practice and research-oriented industrial engagement.
These achievements reflect the growing confidence, capability, and global exposure of Bhutanese Mechanical Engineering students, whose dedication and perseverance continue to demonstrate that young engineers from Bhutan are increasingly contributing at national and international technical platforms. Their performance highlights the strength of sustained academic effort, industry-linked learning opportunities, and a culture of discipline and teamwork within the department.
An interactive activity session coordinated by Mr. Karma Dorji added enthusiasm and engagement to the programme and encouraged student participation in a lively academic environment.
The event was smoothly facilitated by Ms. Jamyang Choden, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Anisha Pradhan. The department also acknowledges the valuable support extended by Mr. Tenzin, Mr. Damcho, Mr. Singye, Ms. Phurpa, Mr. Lungtem, and Mr. Churamoney in successfully organizing the programme.
