The Mechanical Engineering Department is pleased to share a series of important developments that highlight the department’s steady growth, strong academic culture, and collective achievements of its students and faculty.
Following a recent presentation by Prof. Agarwal at the Mrs. Shashikanta Memorial Foundation General Meeting, the proposals submitted by the department received full endorsement. As a significant outcome, the Mechanical Engineering Merit Awards have been expanded to recognise five meritorious students each semester, effective immediately. This expansion reflects growing confidence in the department’s academic standards, student performance, and overall direction.
The Foundation also expressed its appreciation for the discipline, leadership, enthusiasm, and consistent efforts demonstrated by Mechanical Engineering students and staff. The enhanced merit awards are expected to further motivate students to pursue academic excellence while actively engaging in technical, professional, and co-curricular activities. The award ceremony will be organised after the return of senior students from their internships in March next year, allowing wider participation and celebration.
In addition to academic recognition, the department has received partial financial support for the annual departmental event “Mechanical Soir”, beginning next year. This support strengthens student-led initiatives and reinforces the department’s commitment to creating platforms that encourage innovation, collaboration, and community engagement.
The department is also happy to share that funding for a departmental speaker system has been approved and released. This addition will enhance seminars, workshops, guest lectures, and departmental events. To ensure smooth implementation, Mr. Tenzin and Mr. Karma Dorji have been assigned to coordinate the procurement alongside laboratory items funded under the ASHRAE Undergraduate Equipment Grant, for which funds have already been credited to the college account.
Together, these developments reflect the positive momentum within the Mechanical Engineering Department. With continued support, collaboration, and shared vision, the department remains committed to strengthening academic quality, improving infrastructure, and creating meaningful opportunities for students.
