Admission Criteria

Admission Criteria B.E. Mechanical Engineering defines the academic eligibility, entrance examination, and merit-based selection process for students seeking admission to the undergraduate Mechanical Engineering programme at CST.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants seeking admission to the Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Mechanical Engineering must meet the following minimum eligibility requirements:

Candidates should have passed Class XII (or equivalent) with a minimum of 50% marks in each subjectPhysics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English. These foundational subjects are essential to ensure that students possess the academic preparedness required for the rigorous curriculum of Mechanical Engineering.

The programme offers seats under different admission categories, including regular, self-financed, and in-service (direct entry to second year) candidates. The availability of seats under each category is determined as per institutional and regulatory norms.

All admission notifications and schedules are announced centrally by the institution. Applicants are advised to regularly consult the College / University official website for updated information related to admission timelines, seat allocation, and application procedures.

Selection Criteria

Admission to the programme is based on a transparent and merit-based selection process, designed to assess both academic strength and analytical aptitude.

All eligible candidates are required to appear for an entrance examination, which consists of:

  • an aptitude test, and

  • essay-type questions to evaluate analytical thinking and written communication skills.

Subject Ability Rating

To ensure a balanced evaluation of academic performance, a subject ability rating is computed using the following weightage:

  • Mathematics – 5

  • Physics – 5

  • Chemistry – 4

  • English – 3

  • Any one other subject – 1

This rating reflects the relative importance of core subjects relevant to Mechanical Engineering.

Merit Ranking and Final Selection

The final merit ranking and selection are determined using the following assessment weightage:

  • 55% – Class XII results based on subject ability rating

  • 35% – Performance in the aptitude test

  • 10% – Essay-type questions

This comprehensive evaluation framework ensures that selected candidates demonstrate strong academic foundations, problem-solving ability, and effective communication skills, all of which are critical for success in Mechanical Engineering studies.
