The Mechanical Engineering Department, established in 2023, provides a strong academic and technical foundation across key engineering domains, including design, manufacturing, thermal sciences, energy systems, automation, and HVAC technologies. The department is committed to immersive, practice-oriented learning supported by modern laboratories, CNC machining facilities, metrology equipment, and advanced simulation tools that allow students to apply engineering principles to real-world challenges.
Through collaborations with global and regional partners—such as Airbus, Cadence, Dassault Systèmes, Air Flow Pvt. Ltd., and local industries—the department ensures exposure to contemporary engineering practice, specialised software platforms, and industry-driven training initiatives. These partnerships create meaningful pathways for research engagement, internships, and professional development.
The department maintains strong capabilities in HVAC and energy system studies, enabling students to gain hands-on experience in system design, performance evaluation, and sustainable engineering approaches. Engagement with the ASHRAE CST Bhutan Student Branch further enriches learning by connecting students to international competitions, scholarships, technical workshops, and multidisciplinary research opportunities.
Beyond teaching, the Mechanical Engineering Department actively contributes to the community through consultancy and technical services, including industrial assessments, design support, prototype development, and testing activities. These initiatives strengthen industry–academia collaboration while enhancing student learning through exposure to real engineering environments.
Graduates from the department are well-prepared for careers in HVAC, manufacturing, energy and process industries, product design, industrial operations, and emerging technologies. With a focus on applied engineering, innovation, and modern tools, the department strives to develop competent, responsible, and industry-ready engineers capable of contributing to Bhutan’s evolving technical and economic landscape.
