Prof. Abhishek Agarwal, Dean Mechanical Engineering, participated in the Green Skills Symposium in Kenya, organized by the Royal Academy of Engineering (UK). The symposium brought together selected participants from multiple countries to exchange perspectives on emerging green technologies, sustainable skills development, and industry-linked engineering education.
Participation in the programme followed a highly competitive international selection process, with applications received from over 600 candidates worldwide. The symposium created a valuable platform for dialogue among educators, researchers, and industry representatives working at the intersection of sustainability, innovation, and technical training.
The event focused on strengthening green engineering capacity, promoting industry–academia partnerships, and aligning technical education with evolving global priorities in areas such as electric mobility, sustainable manufacturing, and climate-responsive infrastructure. As part of the programme, participants also visited industrial facilities and innovation centres, including initiatives related to electric vehicle technologies and agro-industrial systems, providing practical insights into applied sustainability solutions relevant to developing economies.
During the symposium, Prof. Agarwal contributed to discussions on engineering education, skill development pathways, and institutional collaboration opportunities, while also sharing perspectives from Bhutan’s higher education context. These engagements helped position CST and the Mechanical Engineering Department within a wider international network working toward sustainable technical capacity building.
The exposure gained through this programme is expected to support ongoing efforts within the department to strengthen practice-oriented learning, research collaboration, and curriculum enrichment aligned with Bhutan’s sustainability priorities. The experience also opens avenues for future cooperation with international partners in areas related to green skills training, applied research, and innovation-driven engineering education.
Participation in such global platforms reflects the department’s continued commitment to advancing international engagement, responsible engineering education, and knowledge exchange that contributes meaningfully to Bhutan’s development goals.
