Powering the Future: Industry Insights Session on Energy Awareness and Sustainability


An Industry Insights Session titled “Powering the Future: Energy Awareness, Sustainability, and Emerging Challenges” was recently conducted, providing an engaging platform to reflect on the evolving global energy landscape and the importance of sustainable practices.
The session was delivered by Prof. Hari Shankar Singh, who shared perspectives on the
fundamental aspects of energy awareness, increasing global energy demand, and the challenges associated with reliance on conventional energy resources.
The discussion highlighted the importance of energy efficiency, renewable energy technologies, and responsible consumption in addressing long-term environmental and economic challenges.

The talk also connected broader global energy concerns with Bhutan’s commitment to sustainability and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Particular attention was given to how technological innovation, policy initiatives, and research can support sustainable development while maintaining responsible resource management.
In addition to traditional energy challenges, the session also touched upon emerging areas such as the growing energy consumption associated with digital technologies, including cryptocurrency mining, and the need to balance technological advancement with environmental responsibility.


The lecture further emphasized the importance of research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovation in developing future energy solutions, encouraging participants to think critically about the role of engineering in shaping sustainable infrastructure and energy systems. 
The session concluded with an interactive discussion, where participants raised thoughtful questions on topics related to renewable energy adoption, sustainable engineering practices, and broader energy challenges.

The session attracted a diverse audience including participants from Malaysia and Indonesia, along with members of the general public, students, and staff. From the staff side, Mr. Tenzin, Mr. Damcho Wangchuk, Mr. Singye Wangchuk, Ms. Purpa Zangmo, and Dr. Chimi Wangmo, among others, attended and actively participated in the discussion.

The session was facilitated by IPP Ms. Jamyang Choden along with Prof. Agarwal. Mr. Karma Dorji welcomed the speaker at the beginning of the programme, while Mr. Kinga Dorji delivered the vote of thanks on behalf of the ASHRAE CST Bhutan Student Branch.
